Large holiday house to rent in Scotland. WOW! Grand stone built traditional highland house over three levels with stunning lochside views of Loch Carron. Stationmasters Lodge sleeps up to 18 in comfort and a superb base for exploring the west coast, Plockton and nearby Isle of Skye. It’s also dog friendly holiday accommodation with up to 3 dogs welcome.

Located amongst spectacular west coast scenery in the village of Stromeferry (no ferry!), and overlooking Loch Carron, the Stationmaster’s Lodge is an incredible find. This large stone built house from 1880 was formerly the stationmaster’s house (Stromeferry Station sits opposite the lodge and still operates today on the Kyle of Lochalsh line and you can arrive at the house by train).

Large holiday house to rent in Scotland

Ideal group accommodation. It’s ideal for large groups, family gatherings and groups of friends with amazing loch views, plenty of space and good facilities.  It sleeps up to 18 in comfort and is a great base for exploring nearby Isle of Skye, Plockton, and iconic attractions such as Eileen Donan Castle.

This is a unique corner of the West Highlands, where a remote and dramatic land meets the sea. It’s off the beaten track and yet easily accessible from the main tourist route to Skye.

The local area is home to huge array of wildlife and otters are spotted regularly from the Lodge on the shoreline. Station Master’s Lodge is a comfortable base for discovering this wild and unspoilt area, steeped in history.

Packed Full of Character

The large open plan lounge is great place to relax with comfy sofas, a fantastic log-burner, huge dining table sits 16 (which converts into a pool table) and amazing lochside views. The lodge is ideal group accommodation. There’s a decent kitchen with oven and hob, microwave, and plenty of cooking equipment for a big group meal.

The house is nice and cosy as its heated by a state of the art Biomass boiler with wood pellets. Free WIFI throughout means you can stay in touch, despite the remote setting. However, note that the speed of connection is pretty slow, as might be expected in such a rural area. Mobile phone reception is limited (best reception with Vodaphone).

This large holiday house to rent in Scotland is spread over three levels and there are eight bedrooms, half of them en-suite. The rooms are a good size and some of them have fantastic loch views. Outside is a delightful terrace area with BBQ. Facing the loch, it’s a great place to enjoy an alfresco breakfast or dinner in the summer months.

Spectacular Loch and Mountain Scenery

The loch and mountain scenery is spectacular in this area of west coast. Stationmaster’s Lodge is an excellent base to explore the Isle of Skye, Torridon, North Coast 500 and the Applecross Peninsula. Eilean Donan Castle, wildlife boat trips and the delightful village of Plockton are all within a 20 minute drive away. Drive time to Portree is an hour, Inverness and Fort William 1.5hrs. You can of course arrive by train, with services from Inverness. In fact, you could take the sleeper train from London to Inverness and then take the local train to Kyle of Lochalsh alighting at Stromeferry Station opposite the house.

Stromeferry overlooks the narrowest part of Loch Carron and for many years, there was a ferry service here to North Strome. This provided a link with the first road built in 1809 along the north side of the loch. The new bypass along the south-eastern shore of the loch made the ferry service redundant and it ceased operating in 1970. It’s now a small sleepy village with very few amenities. In 1883, Stromeferry was the scene of a Sabbatarian riots in which over 200 fishermen took possession of the railway station to prevent the unloading of fish on a Sunday.

It’s worth noting that Stromeferry today is a small village, there are no shops or pubs within walking distance. The nearest shops can be found in Balmacara, Kyle of Lochalsh and Lochcarron (all less than 10 miles away). Strome Ferry used to be a busy hub when the ferry operated.
