About this listing

Owners’ Website

Contemporary Skye cottages Scotland with a sensational seashore location offering incredible mountain and sea views. Sleeping up to six people in three bedrooms, this is a superb base for exploring the delights of the Sleat Peninsula, or the ‘Garden of Skye’ as it is known.

Stunning Waterside Skye Cottages Scotland

Designed by award-winning Dualchas Architects, this wonderful holiday house takes its inspiration from a traditional longhouse, but has a contemporary spin. It’s so bright and airy, and the highlight is a whole wall of multi-way opening windows giving onto stunning views across the Sound of Sleat to Beinn Sgritheall, the peaks of Knoydart and Loch Hourn on the mainland.

Enjoy fresh seafood taking in the ever-changing seascapes

This clever glass-fronted design ensures the living spaces take maximum advantage of the views. We loved eating fresh seafood from the dining table, taking in the ever-changing seascapes.

Multi-way opening windows giving onto stunning views

The comfy lounge, complete with cosy wood burner, is full of interesting artworks and there is a superb selection of books, as well as handy maps and an extensive collection of guidebooks. There’s good Wi-Fi throughout, as well as a TV with Netflix if that’s your sort of thing. The lounge also has a BOSE docking sound system for your tunes. The large dining table seats eight and offers views across the bay through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The ground floor has two comfortable double bedrooms and two bathrooms, including the master en-suite and a wet room. There is a compact but very well-equipped kitchen with large SMEG gas hob and electric oven, fridge and dishwasher. The owners are keen cooks and there is a good selection of cooking utensils. The microwave is in the utility cupboard, along with a washing machine and ironing board.

Great base for exploring the sights on Skye

The upstairs is reached by a quirky ship-style ladder/stair. As this is very steep, the house is NOT suitable for young children or older guests. There’s an unusual gallery overlooking the lounge, with electric piano and a small exercise space. Another good sized twin bedroom completes the upstairs. The bathrooms have a selection of lovely Scottish soaps, and the beds are super comfy.

The decking area runs the full length of the front of the house and is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast, or an early evening drink with breath-taking views across the sea towards the dramatic mountains of Knoydart. The field next door was full of lambs when we stayed, simply lovely.

Superb holiday house with incredible views

It’s just a short walk along the road from the house, past the bay of Camus Croise, to the iconic Eilean Iarmain Hotel and Am Praban pub/bar with its acclaimed selection of fresh local seafood and traditional Gaelic whiskies. You can easily access many of the top attractions and activities on Skye from the house.

The Longhouse is a superb Skye cottages Scotland with incredible views. Sleeping six in comfort, this is a fantastic place for a holiday on the magical isle of Skye, as a couple, family with older children, or with friends. It’s very simple to get to, being an easy 15-minute drive from the Armadale ferry or 20 minutes from the Skye Bridge and is a great base for exploring the sights and experiences of the Sleat Peninsula.

Perfect Days

Enjoy lunch or dinner at the Eilean Iarmain Hotel, a pleasant 10-minute walk from the house. Packed full of character with a superb range of seafood including mussles and scallops, it‘s well worth a visit. Whisky and gin tasting is also available.

Get your boots on and go for a local walk: there are plenty of suggestions in the book. We really enjoyed the spectacular drive and short walk along the coast to the ruins of Dùn Scaith Castle. Park at Tokavaig Bay and take in the sensational views of the Cuillins and Bla Bheinn.

Go for a swim in the sheltered bay in front of the house or try bird-watching: look out for oyster catchers and herons, or at dusk you might get lucky and spy an otter.

Take the coastal walk from the house, down past the harbour to Isle Ornsay with its iconic lighthouse.

This area offers access for experienced hillwalkers to some of the most iconic mountains in Scotland: the mighty Cuillin ridge and Red Cuillins. A bit more accessable but still exposed in places, a walk to the Quirang is a memorable excursion.

In autumn and winter, just relax with a good book by the woodburner. The lounge is a fab place to chill and enjoy the spectacular views.

Buy some local prawns and enjoy lunch on the terrace with a glass of something nice and chilled.

Spoil yourself with some fine dining at one of most special restaurants in Skye – Kinloch Lodge or Duisdale Hotel.

Explore the nearby Armadale Castle Gardens. These popular gardens are set in the gulfstream and have a good variety of plants and some nice walks.

Enjoy tasty homebaking and a proper coffee at the community hub, ‘An Crubh’, just up the road.

Take a tour around Skye. Many of the island’s highlights are accessible from here: from shopping in Portree and distillery tours, to walks to the Fairy Pools, Fairy Glen, the Old Man of Storr or Neist Point lighthouse, the most westerly point of Skye.

Discover the lesser known delights of Skye: hidden swimming coves , white sandy beaches, stunning walking trails, and even kayaking.
